CityGuide Wiesbaden

This charming provincial capital was frequented by numerous aristocrats and artists in the summers of the 19th century. Wiesbaden features stunning historical architecture, having remained largely untouched by the air raids of the Second World War, as well as 26 thermal springs, making it one of Europe’s oldest health spas. The 2000 year old Kaiser Friedrich hot spring is internationally renowned for its healing properties. Wiesbaden has a lively and innovative cultural scene in addition to spacious parks and green space, including the Caligari, one of Germany’s most beautiful cinemas, as well as the Hessian state theatre, the historical casino and numerous cabaret theatres. The city centre is characterized by art nouveau and classical architecture, being a prime example of historicism. Finally, Wiesbaden also hosts many annual festivals as well as providing a number of excursions, rightly earning UNESCO world cultural heritage status in 2005.
