CityGuide Hanover
Hannover, the former seat of royal power, is situated near the Leine River. Georg Friedrich Handel described the city in glowing terms during his time there as the conductor of palace concerts in which he also wrote some of his most famous works. Hannover features many museums including the museum of history, the Lower Saxon museum, the Wilhelm Busch museum as well as Germany’s second largest police museum. The city’s art association is one of the oldest and most interesting in Germany; all historical periods from classical modernity through to contemporary art are represented. In terms of music, the Hannover opera house is the Lower Saxon state orchestra’s venue and hosts numerous operas and ballets. The Hannover-based NDR’s stages are always available for concerts. Furthermore, Hannover hosts a number of annual festivals such as the music parade of the nations whilst jazz, military marches and folk music are also deemed important styles of music. Classical and modern plays are performed on the playhouse’s 4 stages and the boulevard theatre provides light entertainment. Another interesting fact is that the city’s trade fair grounds are the largest in the world. Finally, it is up to you to decide whether or not the locally brewed beer really is the best in the world in one of Hannover’s beautiful beer gardens.
