Germany’s former federal capital has over 2000 years of history. Ludwig van Beethoven, Bonn’s most well-known citizen, was born in this city in 1770. His house has been a museum for over 100 years and houses the world’s largest Beethoven collection. The Beethoven hall orchestra lives up to the great composer’s legacy, being one of Germany’s most acclaimed cultural orchestras. Bonn has a thriving music scene which amongst other things features the annual Beethoven gala, attracting visitors from all over the world. Other highlights include the German federal republic’s art and exhibition hall and the Bonn art museum which form an impressive architectural whole and have been one of Germany’s ten most visited museums ever since their establishment. The museum of the history of the German federal republic and the Alexander Koenig natural history museum are also situated in this area as is Bonn’s German museum. Bonn features over 20 museums with very different exhibitions including the August Macke house and the women’s museum, making it a must see city for culture vultures.
