CityGuide Stuttgart
Stuttgart is, along with Munich and Berlin, one of the most important publishing areas in Germany as well as being the seat of the Südwestrundfunk radio. This city truly has something for everyone, featuring the world’s largest theatre for opera, ballet and drama with its renowned ballet group and its opera house which has been elected opera house of the year six times as well as highly praised museums which house some of the most important exhibitions on cultural history in Europe. Stuttgart is not only a city of classical culture, but also specializes in unusual art forms such as pantomime with which it has achieved international acclaim; performances take place all year round at the International Pantomime Theatre whilst pantomime is taught on a professional level here too. Musical theatre and children’s theatres are also well represented in Stuttgart’s diverse cultural scene whilst the International Bach Academy, the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra, the Kammer orchestra and many other institutions in Stuttgart are internationally acclaimed and valued for their high standards. It is no wonder that Suttgart hosts the annual European Music Festival as well as a wide range of concerts including classical music, folk music, jazz and rock with guests from all over the world. The city is also celebrated in literary terms; the Literaturhaus hosts readings, debates and workshops for youths and is the liveliest venue for literature in town.
